Why Choose a Park Home in Kent?

Choosing the perfect location to settle down in your retirement years, is no easy decision. If it’s a park home that your heart is set on, but you’re confused by where to lay down your roots, we’d like to give you some help along the way. This week, we’re focusing on Kent and why it could be the perfect destination to relocate now you’re retired and can enjoy your sense of freedom.

Our top reasons

Not only is Kent an ideal location due to its close proximity to London, it’s also been voted one of the friendliest places to live, especially if you’re looking for a retirement property. Packed with gorgeous countryside, well-known seaside villages, picturesque historic sites and some great shopping locations, it’s set up for idyllic living. Its country estates and farming areas make it arguably one of the most beautiful counties in Britain, it’s even been the inspiration for some amazing historical literal figures. The stunning coastline is also packed with some of the best beach towns and villages, from traditional Margate to the sights of Dover’s white cliffs.

A great location

Kent is an easy location to get to. Once on the M25, there are two major routes; if you are coming from the North or the East, you’ll access via the Dartford toll Bridge. You then simply follow the signs for the M2 or travel down to the M20; however, if you’re coming from the south or west, on joining the M25, simply continue until you reach the M26 and onto the M20. Train access is also a simple option, as all major routes will find their way to London.

Places to Visit in Kent

The beautiful gardens of Goodnestone are perfect for those days when all you want to do is relax. Located in the south-east of Kent, the gardens are laden with centuries of history. They actually inspired Jane Austen to write Pride and Prejudice.

We’ve all heard of the White Cliffs of Dover, and what an amazing site they really are. The iconic white cliffs are over 80 million years old and created by years of formation of sea shells and fossilised sea life. If you are a keen walker and not put off by heights, then you can embark on some of the best costal walks that the UK has to offer.

Canterbury Cathedral, dates back to medieval times. It remains one of the most visited places in the country, and just as importantly, a working, living church and community.  Enjoy wandering round the cathedrals’ magnificent rooms, visit the colourful tombs, walk round the cloisters or spend time listening to the beautiful choir.

If easy access to the shops is high on the agenda for an enjoyable retirement, then close to the Dartford crossing, you’re in for hours of fun making the most of the shopping selection at both Thurrock and Bluewater. Ikea is also on your doorstep!

Be inspired near the seaside

Visit Margate and not only have fun by the seaside but visit the mysterious Shell Grotto. The Shell Grotto is a series of subterranean rooms discovered in 1835. Decorated with over four million shells, it’s a sight not to miss as its full of mystery as no one knows how long it has been here.

Or venture to Whitstable and see the picturesque seaside houses and pastel beach huts. Famous for its local oysters, don’t miss out on some samples when you visit. If you enjoy the literary talents of some our greatest writers, then as well as Kent’s links to Jane Austen, a visit to Broadstairs where Charles Dickens wrote Bleak House and David Copperfield will fill you with visions of times gone by. Or simply visit the beaches and promenades of St Mildred’s Bay – a small sandy beach adjacent to the seaside town of Westgate – or Walpole Bay, in Margate, popular for swimming and sunbathing.
