Park home living offers an affordable, community-focused lifestyle that’s growing in popularity. Whether you’re looking to downsize, enjoy a low-maintenance home, or start a new chapter somewhere peaceful, the process can seem daunting if you are new to the idea.
At Omar, we’ve helped thousands of customers find and design their perfect residential park home. Here are our top tips to guide you through buying with confidence.
1. Start with the right park
The first and most important step is choosing the park. This is where you’ll live, so take your time to find one that feels right for you. Visit a few parks in person, take a chance to walk around, talk to residents, and get a sense of the community.
Ask about the park’s site licence and whether it’s fully residential (so you can live there year-round). It’s also worth checking how the park is managed and who owns it, as a well-run, trustworthy park gives you peace of mind for the long term.
2. Know what you want
Before you fall in love with a show home, work out your budget and make a list of what you’re looking for, e.g. location, layout, features, and style. Park homes offer incredible flexibility, and at Omar, every home can be tailored to your taste and needs, whether that’s a walk-in wardrobe, utility room, or fully accessible design.
If you have particular requirements, our team will work with you and the park to specify the details, so the park can provide a clear turnkey price upfront.
3. Ask the right questions
Transparency is your best protection. When you’re visiting parks, ask:
- How are pitch fees reviewed or capped?
- Are rentals or subletting allowed?
- What are the park rules?
- What happens if you decide to sell or gift your home to a family member?
Good parks will happily answer all these questions and provide everything in writing.
4. Understand the legal side
Always read the contract carefully and get independent legal advice from a solicitor who is experienced in park home purchases. This ensures everything is clear and protects your rights as a homeowner.
You’ll buy your home through the park, but you’ll specify the home with us at Omar (unless you’re buying a show home already sited). We’ll guide you through each step so there are no surprises along the way.
5. Use trusted resources
Using recognised organisations for your research is the best way to buy with confidence. Omar is a proud member of the NCC (National Caravan Council) and the BH&HPA (British Holiday & Home Parks Association). Both are excellent sources of independent information and guidance for buyers.
