Are park homes energy efficient?

As the UK’s leading designer and manufacturer of park homes and luxury lodges, Omar Group is committed to providing high-quality, comfortable living spaces. One question we often encounter is about the energy efficiency of park homes.

Winter warmth and year-round comfort

Omar park homes are designed to be warm and comfortable throughout the year, including during the cold winter months. The high levels of insulation, combined with efficient heating systems, ensure that our park homes maintain a comfortable temperature while minimising energy consumption.

British Standard BS 3632: Ensuring energy efficiency

Park homes have come a long way in terms of energy efficiency. With the latest British Standards in place, modern park homes are designed to be highly energy-efficient, comfortable, and suitable for year-round living.

Omar and Wessex park homes and luxury lodges are built to BS 3632, the British Standard for residential park homes. This standard, first published in 1963, has undergone significant updates over the years, with a strong focus on improving energy efficiency.

The latest version, BS 3632:2023, which Omar implemented from February 2024, brings further enhancements to energy efficiency:

  1. Improved Thermal Insulation: The new standard includes improvements to the U-values of floors and walls. U-values measure how effective a material is as an insulator, with lower values indicating better insulation. This improvement means Omar park homes will be warmer and require less energy to heat.
  2. Thermostatic Radiator Valves: These are fitted as standard, allowing for better temperature control, leading to improved comfort and energy savings.
  3. Enhanced Ventilation: The new standard requires permanently open vents in every room and improved wardrobe ventilation. This helps improve air quality and reduce condensation, contributing to a healthier living environment and potentially reducing heating needs.

Energy rating certificates

Although not a requirement of BS 3632, Omar, as a member of the National Caravan Council (NCC), provides Energy Efficiency Calculations for all homes. This allows buyers to compare the energy efficiency of different models, much like the Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) used for traditional houses.

Modern park homes, particularly those manufactured by Omar to the latest BS 3632 standards, are indeed energy efficient. They combine high-quality insulation, efficient heating systems, and improved ventilation to create homes that are not only comfortable year-round but also economical to run and environmentally friendly. As the standards continue to evolve, we can expect park homes to become even more energy-efficient in the future, making them an excellent choice for those seeking a sustainable and comfortable living option.
